"Dude, he doesn't put his money where his mouth is. (though being commie, of course, this 'money' is just metaphorical) He says he's all political and shit, and then he doesn't speak up when people in his own department are being fuckers. It's such a turn-off!"
I am evidently not turned off,
but it's not that.
Only, I have no right to speak
where courage is concerned.
I haven't even done what I wanted
in the face of indifference,
Forget opposition.
you removed the second stanza. i was going to point out that i had problems with it.
ReplyDeletei had problems with it as well. what precisely, though?
ReplyDeletethe "stretching" bit. i mean, i know you're smitten, but dont let your imagination get the better of you. i'm, of course, referring to specific imaginings. :P
ReplyDeletealso, i dont agree with the post as it is now. or perhaps i dont understand the connection. you're saying guilt legitimizes your attraction? it's one thing to say how he's courageous (compared to you) and another to let your self-deprecation vindicate his lack of courage.
ReplyDeletemy "specific imaginings", I assure you, were really not leaning that way. it's not vindication. it's more like not casting the first stone. perhaps i haven't expressly mentioned it (and this is a problem i'll correct) but i do note his guilt.
ReplyDeletehis guilt? i noted your guilt.
ReplyDeletehis guilt would be a cause to criticize him. yet i don't criticize him, i am silent. and it's not because i'm attracted, it's because i am also guilty, and so cannot cast the first stone.
